Statewide, Louisiana voted for Donald Trump by about 22 points in 2024, which sets the backdrop for its district races. How that statewide vote turns into seats depends on where the lines fall, which is why the map is contested as often as the candidates. Louisiana runs its 2026 congressional races on two tracks. The 6 U.S. House seats appear on a single all-candidate ballot on November 3, 2026, and if no candidate wins a majority, the top two meet in a runoff on December 12, 2026. The U.S. Senate race, for Bill Cassidy’s seat, used a closed party primary on May 16, 2026, with a June 27 runoff, and advances to the November 3 ballot. In that closed primary, registered Democrats and Republicans vote in their own party’s contest, and unaffiliated voters may pick one party’s ballot.
